Man Charged After Allegedly Driving Stolen Car That Crashed, Say Police

Charges are pending against two juveniles who were his passengers.

According to police, a Norristown man, Daquan Bailey, has been charged after driving a car that was reported stolen and being part of a car crash after allegedly eluding police on Nov. 9.

Norristown police saw a black Nissan Altima at the 100 block of East Airy Street around midnight that had ben reported stolen from a Norristown location on Nov. 7.

Police tried to have the Altima pull over but the driver fled, say police. The car was found soon after, flipped over, having had a collision with another car at the 300 block of West Wood Street.

Fire Rescue came and extracted the car’s three occupants.

The driver, Bailey, an 18-year-old Norristown resident, was not injured and was arrested, say police. According to court documents he is charged with aggravated assault, aggravated assault by vehicle, receiving stolen property, fleeing or attempting to allude an officer and a number of traffic violations.

Bailey’s two passengers were a 17-year-old male and a 15-year-old male, who were taken to hospitals for their injuries, which were not life-threatening, say police. Charges are pending on the juveniles.

According to court documents, earlier this year Bailey was charged with terroristic threats with the intent to terrorize another, simple assault, and disorderly conduct: engaging in fighting that stemmed from a March 13 incident. According to the documents he pleaded guilty to the charge of simple assault.

Bailey’s preliminary arraignment was scheduled for Saturday morning, where he did not meet his $100,000 bail and was incarcerated at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility, according to court documents. 

His preliminary arraignment is scheduled for Nov. 19, in the courtroom of magisterial district judge Francis J. Lawrence Jr. in Norristown.

The incident is under investigation.
