Man Struck By Train in Lansdale

UPDATE 7:00 p.m.

Police said a 29-year-old man was injured while crossing the tracks in front of an inbound SEPTA train on the eastside platform in Lansdale.

According to police, witnesses reported the man scaled a fence separating the SEPTA property along Walnut Street and began walking in a perpendicular direction toward the tracks.

The conducter sounded the train's horn, but the male reportedly never stopped walking.

The conducter attempted an emergency stop as the male threw a skateboard he was carrying up onto the train platform, according to police.

Witnesses said the male appeared to begin to hoist himself onto the platform when he was struck by the left front of the lead train car, police said.

The male was thrown to the ground and under the train as it continued to come to an emergency stop.

The male suffered visible injuries to his head and ankle, police said, and did not appear life-threatening.

At 3:49 p.m., Lansdale Police and Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale were called to the station, police said.

On arrival, police found the male under the train, but was conscious and alert, police said.

He was treated by VMSC and transported via PennStar to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, police said.

UPDATE 4:47 p.m.: According to WFMZ reports, the accident occured before 4 p.m. today. Eyewitness reports show that train service, however, has since resumed at the Lansdale station and only one track has been shut down for the investigation.

UPDATE 4:36 p.m.: Witnesses at the scene report that the station was delayed for approximately 20 minutes as emergency crews worked to assit a white male, in his 20s.

The male was standing on the train station's platform. Eye-witnesses report that he seemed not to hear the train blow its horn to alert a departure. The man was then struck and dragged under the train.

The unidentified male was transported via to an awaiting Penn Star medivac. He was reportedly alert and conscious according to authorities.

Police report at this time, they do not believe it is related to . This was the second incident today, according to BNN reports.

UPDATE 4:30 p.m.: At this time, traffic is being permitted to use the Main Street area of the accident. No Lansdale traffic is delayed, accoridng to reports from the scene.

A second train has arrived at the SEPTA station to pick up passengers in the area.

Early reports, according to Breaking News Network (BNN), show that units in the area of Lansdale are being dispatched to the scene of 101 W. Main St. The call has been made for a person struck by a train along the tracks.

Penn Star medical helicopter has been requested.
