UPDATE: More Details in Saturday Night Shooting Incident

Police are currently investigating at least three separate shots fired incidents in Norristown on Saturday night. A possible fourth incident has yet to be confirmed.

UPDATE: [1/6/13; 9 a.m.] According to Norristown Police Detective Corporal Adam Schurr, authorities have recovered evidence from one of several shots fired incidents within a few hours of one another in Norristown on Saturday, Jan. 5.

Police believe six shots were fired in the incident at Oak and Smith Streets – two into a vehicle at the scene which authorities had been seized and were awaiting a search warrant on early Sunday morning. According to Cpl. Schurr, officers also recovered casings from the scene.

That incident followed within minutes of a shots fired report in the 400 block of Moore Street at approximately 5:30 p.m. where police also recovered fragments from several bullets as well as sneakers and reportedly a jacket from someone at the scene at the time of the shooting.

A third, earlier shots fired incident somewhere in the area of Green and Oak Streets was also reportedly under investigation, but few details are available in that incident.

Residents have reported a fourth shots fired incident later Saturday night, but Norristown Patch has been unable to confirm that incident with police at this time.

Original story:

Norristown Police are currently investigating a scene at Moore and Violet Streets where shots were reported fired Saturday evening. There are multiple bullet fragments at the scene and sneakers were found that are believed to be from someone involved in the incident.

Neighbors reported hearing shots fired.

It is unclear if this incident is related to two other incidents that have been reported by residents in the last few hours in Norristown: in the area of Arch and Smith streets and Green and Oak streets.

All three reports are still under investigation and no one has been reported injured in any of the incidents.

Norristown Patch will update this as more details emerge.

Declare a state of emergency with a strict curfew! No one on street corners after 9pm or risk arrest. Perhaps start a division of the guardian Angels?
APB January 06, 2013 at 03:41 AM
I don't think Philly has three shootings in one night within hours of each other. This has hit a new level of severity. We need all county resources to stop this BS. Our safety is in serious jeopardy. Stay safe my fellow Norristownians!

There is a council meeting on Monday 7pm, urge folks to attend and speak up The police dept is doing what they can but its 2 things that are stopping them from doing there job people not speaking up and municipality not giving them the resources to do there job. There needs to be change of direction in the way the situation is being handled. There needs to be a team effort between county and local as well state too. The officers need to get out physical walking these streets, with K9 sniffing out drugs and guns as well looking for outstanding warrants as well start stopping people for petty things until the message gets across that we will find you who ever is doing this Also council needs to ad-mend its policy on rental registrations any building owner that applies for a rental license is required to provide a list of names of tenants for criminal background checks state and federal. Your not violating anyone's rights your just finding out who living there, if you don't criminal background nothing to worry, Its done for Megans law and certain employment.
jeff jones January 06, 2013 at 01:52 PM
Food for thought if an officer was knocked out by a bullet the situation would be different all efforts would be used As long council doesn't want to step up to the plate, and thinking the resolution is walking or having meetings where nothing is accomplished, as well using weed and seed money to bring in speakers that only blow off hot air but take our dollars, nothing will be resolved Streetscape projects and microloans don't work either as well empty meter spots, Crime needs to be gotten under control before town gets better, but the heads of state here can't see that for anything as the old saying goes the elevator doesn't go up all the way that's what there minds think Might find start finding out some interesting information
Disgusted with the whining January 06, 2013 at 03:38 PM
Change starts with the people and as long as everyone sits back complaining and not actively searching for solutions this will continue. You know that saying "if you don't vote don't complain" well the same applies here. If you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem. Everyone needs to stop blaming each other and band together and take back your streets. The police officers can only do so much and I don't think walking the streets will help the situation, in fact I would think it would make them walking targets. What happened to the neighborhood block captains and town watches? Everyone needs to let these losers know this behaviour is not tolerated, join together people, go to the council meetings and demand your rights. These people were voted in by you, the population of Norristown and work for you! Make them do their jobs, make them accountable........
Deanna_Butler January 06, 2013 at 07:33 PM
And Jeff harassing people over pettt shit is not the key ot walking around town with drug sniffing dogs the cops can't just bust in people door
John Q. Public January 06, 2013 at 07:55 PM
Property values did plunge, and with them, rents. Low rents attract low life. The cycle perpetuates itself, as rents go lower, and subsidized housing pushes out family ownership. SEPTA's low-cost rail-service to N. Philly adds to the mix. Sorry, but Norristown is beyond saving, and is only getting worse. The blight of Norristown must be contained as it is already infecting surrounding communities.
John Q. Public January 06, 2013 at 07:59 PM
Sorry, but there's no saving Norristown. The corruption of subsidized housing and government benefits has destroyed the moral fibre of the populace and there's no going back. The trick is to contain it, so property values outside town don't plummet. Low property values leads to low-rents, and low-rents will destroy any town.

The Norristown mantra: don't snitch, don't cooperate, blame the helpers like the cops and the victims (for being out late at night OR why were you in that neighborhood anyhow). Remind everyone that not getting a PlayStation at age 8, a Nintendo at age 9 and a pair of Jordan's at age 10 scarred the perp into doing these things. So we are to blame, it's our fault for having dysfunctional neighbors supported by a system that now apparently wants to reward the losers and steal from the winners.
Danny January 07, 2013 at 01:51 AM
Norristown is becoming a rental town and rents are going down attracting the worst of the worse. The landlords don't live here, the Police don't live here, Municipal workers don't live here, it's just us poor saps left holding the bag. My house has been on the market for almost two years and I can't get what I owe. We cant sleep at night because of car radios, people yelling, gun shots etc...The wife and I talking about walking in the loan and renting in king of Prussia.

While Rome burns (Norristown) Nero fiddles (Borough Government) see Wiki Nero (Borough) focused much of his attention on diplomacy, trade, and enhancing the cultural life of the Empire. He ordered theaters built and promoted athletic games. He is infamously known as the Emperor (Council) who "fiddled while Rome burned"] and as an early persecutor of Christians (the residents).

fyi...look at #68 http://www.neighborhoodscout.com/neighborhoods/crime-rates/top100dangerous/
Lindsay M. January 07, 2013 at 02:14 PM
There are town watches, one for each North End, East End, and West End. But attendance is poor, just like most things in Norristown. Everyone wants a solution, but are too busy to actually join one of these groups to do something.
TheTruth543 January 07, 2013 at 02:52 PM
Really!!?? Your comments are irresposible and full of violence and hypocricy. In one comment you say that people need to start talking. Then in the next you call those people that talk snitches yet your earlier comment said you would snitch. People need to get rid of the idea that it is wrong to tell on inform the law on people taht you feel can cause harm tyo you or your family. That's not snitching, that's looking out for your own.

Every neighborhood needs to be involved even if it's 'Good'. Crime doesn't stop, it just moves to a quieter, less conspicuous area bringing that area down while the other may rise. Because your neighborhood doesn't see this activity doesn't mean that it's invulnerable in time. Many individuals that engage in crime stop this type of crime where they practice for a few reasons: 1. They are in prison. 2. They've died. 3. They've moved on to another area because it got too 'Hot' where they were wheeling & dealing previously. Sadly not enough stop because they've realized the error of their ways & desire to become a giver to their community instead of a taker. Crime is lower in my little slice of Norristown but I frequent those council meetings & police calls as soon as there seems to be an uptake in anything or I notice anything. It's easier for the police to take care situations before getting out of control. Where there is poverty there is higher crime & we all know this, regardless of religion, income, education. When you have this 'wealth', shall we say, of Sec. 8 housing & welfare services we are going to have higher crime than our more monied towns beyond our borders. Many a story has been told that Norristown was 'designed' to be this way by the powers that be who run our county 'Keep it all in one place!'. Is there truth in this? Seems plausible to a levelheaded business manager like me. Business is business as long as it's not in your backyard right?

Assuming #1 is the worst then at least we are not #59 like in 2012.

please read this to Borough Council in between their bureaucratic BS tonight. leadership, 1. The activity of leading a group of people or an organization or the ability to do this. Leadership involves (1) establishing a clear vision, (2) sharing that vision with others so that they will follow willingly, (3) providing the information, knowledge and methods to realize that vision, and (4) coordinating and balancing the conflicting interests of all members and stakeholders. A leader steps up in times of crisis, and is able to think and act creatively in difficult situations. Unlike management, leadership cannot be taught, although it may be learned and enhanced through coaching or mentoring. Someone with great leadership skills today is Bill Gates who, despite early failures, with continued passion and innovation has driven Microsoft and the software industry to success.
