New Firefighter Sworn In at Tuesday Council Meeting

Robert J. Spitko II continues the family business as Norristown's newest full-time firefighter.

Norristown's newest full-time firefighter, Robert J. Spitko II, was sworn in by Municipal Council President Gary Simpson Tuesday night, with help from Spitko's wife, Suzie, and Norristown Fire Chief Thomas O'Donnell.

Spitko's father, Robert Sr., is a lieutenant in the department and the younger Spitko has volunteered with the department since he was a teenager. He was awarded a medal of valor in December 2011 for his rescue of a woman trapped in fast-moving flood waters in Stony Creek during the height of Hurricane Irene.
