Norristown Man Arrested for 'Tearing Up' Rahill's Tavern

Police are charging 33-year-old Curtis Jones with public drunkenness and disorderly conduct after they were called to the bar to subdue him.

According to a report from the Norristown Police Department, officers were called to a local bar on Saturday afternoon to subdue an unruly patron who was creating a disturbance and causing damage to the establishment.

Police were reportedly dispatched to Rahill's Tavern at Airy and Noble streets shortly after 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6 when a bartender at the establishment called to report a male patron "tearing the place up."

On the scene, officers reportedly observed 33-year-old Curtis A. Jones, of the 900 block of West Lafayette Street, throwing a chair and attempting to pull the screen from the screen door. Officers told Jones that he was under arrest and ordered him to place his hands behind his back according to the report. Jones reportedly refused and officers deployed a Taser at Jones, which they say had no effect on him.

Officers reportedly took Jones to the ground by force and attempted, unsuccessfully, to search his person. Police believed Jones was attempting to conceal his right side pants area from them and eventually officers were forced to remove his pants in order to search them. Ironically, one officer's pants were reportedly torn and rendered "unserviceable" during the struggle.

Jones was reportedly transported to Mercy Suburban Hospital for treatment of an overdose. He is being charged with public drunkenness and disorderly conduct.
