Norristown Man Caught Stealing Bikes, Police Say

According to police, the man said he grabbed two bicycles, worth a total of $500, from a Dumpster.

Whitemarsh Police arrested a man late Friday night after he was allegedly seen wheeling two mountain bikes across the street toward his vehicle.

Edgar Francisco Roman, 38, of the 1200 block of West Fayette Street, was arrested at about 11:30 p.m. in the 500 block of Ridge Pike. According to police, when questioned about the two mountain bikes, Roman said he took them out of a Dumpster after a woman said it was OK; Roman then pointed toward some houses on Ridge Pike and said that he had removed the bikes from this location.

While police were speaking with Roman a resident from the 500 block of Ridge Pike arrived home. According to police, the resident said that he left the two bikes leaning against a fence toward the rear of his driveway, adding that the bikes were not trash; the bikes were about 100 feet away from the sidewalk, police said.

Roman, who was also cited for driving without a license, was charged with theft and later released after posting bail. According to police, Roman was arrested last year for a similar offense.
