Norristown Man Gets Prison for Felony Welfare Fraud

In addition to prison time, the man must pay restitution and court fees.

A Norristown man has been sentenced to prison time after being found guilty of felony welfare fraud, the Pennsylvania Office of the Inspector General announced.

Gerald Johnson, 47 of Norristown pleaded guilty to illegally receiving Subsidized Day Care benefits in excess of $3,600. He was sentenced by Judge William T. Nicholas to up to 23 months in prison. Additionally, Johnson will have to pay restitution and fees, and cannot receive SDC benefits for six months.

The Office of Inspector General works with DPW’s county assistance offices statewide to identify suspected cases of public assistance fraud and with local district attorneys to bring the cases to prosecution.
