Norristown Man Killed in Garbage Truck Accident in Hilltown

Ricco Rios, 24, of Norristown, was killed Tuesday morning when the trash truck in which he was a passenger rolled into a drainage ditch in Hilltown Township.

A 24-year-old Norristown man was killed on Tuesday morning following an accident involving a trash truck in Hilltown Township.

The accident occurred at 4:30 a.m., when the garbage truck attempted to make a left turn from Bypass Road onto Dublin Road, according to WFMZ. The report states that as the truck turned, it rolled onto its right side and came to rest in a drainage ditch.

Ricco Rios, 24, of Norristown, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene, reports the Times Herald. The driver, identified as 28-year-old Adam Bermudez, of East Norriton, was able to free himself from the vehicle and call for help, the report states.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation, as officials determine whether it was caused by driver error or mechanical failure, according to reports.

Units from the Dublin Fire Department, Plumsteadville Fire Company, Hilltown Fire Department and Point Pleasant EMS assisted Hilltown Police at the scene.
