The has three new corporals, thanks to city council unanimously approving their promotions during Thursday night's council meeting.
Surrounded by friends and family, Officers Nicholas Dumas and Michael Bishop were sworn into their new positions. The third officer – David Stowell – was unable to attend the meeting due to his recent marriage on Friday.
"I told him [Stowell] to be here but he's not," said Russell Bono, chief of the Norristown Police Department. "I guess we know who his real boss is."
The three officers were selected for promotion out of a field of fifteen who took the corporal examination.
"It's a difficult exam, and they finished as the top three," said Bono.
Officer Dumas began his career with the Norristown Police Department on Feb. 21 of 2006, and he will now be assigned to work with the patrol division. Officer Bishop – who works the late shift – will also continue his service with the patrol division.
"I don't get to see a lot of Mike since he works the midnight shift, but he's one of the hardest working patrol officers in the department," said Bono. "I get to see his reports and I got to see the product of his work. He's well deserving of this promotion."
