Norristown Police are currently investigating an attempted rape reported to them by a female victim late Wednesday night.
According to authorities, the woman told police that she was walking with her two-year-old daughter west on Airy Street at approximately 9:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 30, when she became aware that she was being followed by an unidentified male.
The woman reportedly turned south on Buttonwood Street and the suspect allegedly ran up to them and pushed them both into Butz alley and threw them both ground. The woman alleged the man began to grab her, ripping her shirt and trying to remove her pants while she struggled to fight him off.
The suspect reportedly fled east through Butz Alley when the woman and her daughter began to yell for help. Neither victim was seriously injured in the alleged struggle.
The suspect is described as a black male, 5'7" tall, weighing 180 lbs. and appeared to be approximately 30 years old. He was said to be wearing a dark-colored hooded jacket, a light-colored t-shirt and jeans. The victim told police she had seen the male on previous occasions, but did not know his name.
According to Lt. Michael Crescitelli, authorities have been unable to contact the victim for a follow up investigation. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Norristown Police Department at 61-270-0977.
