Area law enforcement officers, Norristown officials and friends and family of Thomas Barone gathered at Marshall Street Elementary School on Thursday to commemorate Norristown Police Officer with a plaque as part of the Hero Cops program. Barone was killed in the line of duty in 1992. He had attended Marshall Street Elementary as a child.
Officer Barone was shot and killed while answering a domestic disturbance call in the 600 block of West Elm Street on Oct. 11, 1992, according to a story about the incident on Philly.com.
Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman, who led the ceremony, had a told Barone's parents and brother Michael that Barone would live on in everyone's memory.
"Mr. and Mrs. Barone, we will never forget," Ferman said. "We will make sure no one else ever forgets."
The Hero Cop program was started in 2001 to honor men and women in law enforcement who have been killed or died in the line of duty.
