Pierce to Plead Not Guilty

Brenden Pierce, accused of murdering 16-year-old Dominique Devlin in July, will plead not guilty to murder according to his attorney.

According to a story on Philly.com, Defense attorney Rick Tompkins, counsel for , told Judge Thomas C. Branca at Peirce's arraignment last week that he would be pleading "Not Guilty" when he faces a jury at his trial set for April 23.

Pierce is being charged in connection with the in July. According to the affidavit, Pierce lured Devlin, who the DA described as an ex-girlfriend, to an alley off of East Basin Street near Green Street and shot her in retribution for setting him up in a . Pierce's family has maintained his innocence from the beginning and claim the two were never a couple.

Tompkins requested bail for Pierce, which Assistant District Attorney Nathan J. Schadler argued against and the judge denied. Tompkins also took the opportunity to correct Pierce's name in the court records. The original affidavit lists his name as "Brandon" Pierce.
