Police: After Allegedly Choking Girlfriend, Man Bites and Spits on Officer

A Norristown man faces multiple counts of assault.

A woman armed herself with a knife after her boyfriend allegedly choked her in anger after their power had been turned off, police say.

On Wednesday, Jan 8 around 9:35 p.m. Norristown police went to the Black Fan apartments on the 0 block of West Main Street to investigate a report of a woman in one of the apartments who had a knife and was screaming, according to a Norristown police report.

The officers arrived and consulted with the person who had called in the complaint, as well as a man in a hallway, identified as Kyle Jay Brown, 28, who wore no shirt or shoes and who smelled of intensely of alcohol.

The caller had told police that Brown had had a domestic issue with his girlfriend in the apartment in question; Brown told police that he had not participated in any altercation previous to the officers arriving, say police.

Police spoke with Brown’s girlfriend, who told them that Brown had arrived home, and was drunk, and that they had argued over the electricity being shut off in the apartment.

The woman told police that Brown blamed her and punched her twice in the face and then began to choke her. She told police that he later released her and left. She said that she took a knife in her hand to defend herself should Brown come back.

Police found the knife in the apartment, which the woman had not used. In the hallways Brown had been “rambling” about being in the Army and did not immediately follow police instructions to go back to the apartment, according to the report.

One officer saw that the woman’s face was injured, with a red, swollen forehead and scratches.

Police took Brown into custody for simple assault, related to domestic violence, during which time Brown spit into the face of one of the officers. The officer, in an attempt to prevent Brown from spitting again, put a hand on Brown’s face and Brown bit her thumb, causing pain.

Brown then spit in another officer’s face. It was a physical effort to move Brown from the building into a police vehicle. At the vehicle he continued to be combative and kicked an officer, after which another officer used a taser on him. Brown was taken to the police station.

According to online court documents Brown faces multiple charges of aggravated assault and simple assault, among other charges.
