Police: Man Beaten With Baseball Bat in Temecula Park

Police are investigating the assault of a 20-year-old man who was allegedly beaten with a baseball bat when he went to Kent Hintergardt Park late Sunday to meet a female.

Police are investigating the assault of a man Sunday in a Temecula park.

A 20-year-old man was left with potentially life-threatening injuries when he was allegedly beaten with a baseball bat at around 11:05 p.m. Sunday at Kent Hintergardt Memorial Park, 45125 Via Del Coronado in Temecula, police said Tuesday in a news release.

"The victim sustained numerous injuries but was able to drive his vehicle home. He was then transported to the hospital by family members," said Sgt. Decker of the Temecula Police Department.

Decker said the man was admitted Monday to the emergency room at Rancho Springs Medical Center in Murrieta with major injuries.

Temecula officers responded and conducted an initial investigation, according to the sergeant.

"The investigation revealed the victim had arranged to meet a female at a park in the city of Temecula. While he waited he was assaulted by a male suspect using a baseball bat," Decker said.

Police believe the man was not randomly targeted, nor was he the victim of a robbery attempt.

The Temecula Police Department is actively following up on information it has received from the victim, Decker said.

Anyone with additional information was asked to contact Investigator Gorlicki at 951-696-3000.

Thank you "A Father" for letting us know, we appreciate that, and hope that this young man fully recovers and maybe one day can forgive and forget. Meanwhile, hope that maniac with the bat gets whats coming to him. Young people really need to think more before acting and reacting, its sooooo important. God bless you and your family so sorry this horrible thing happened to begin with.

"A Father", Thank you for letting us know here in Temecula this young man is home and on his way to recovery. I have thought of him and this incident alot over the last few days and how "chicken" it was to commit this assault on a innocent, unsuspecting, unarmed man. Reminds me of just how many children, teenagers and adults walk at our parks and play and could be victims of any person intent on hurting another. I hope the courts give this guy who did this(thank you for letting us know he has been caught) every charge possible, laying in wait, premeditated, etc. etc. and he gets a few years to meet the BIG guys in prison who dont need bats on a defenseless person, they have big fists.

Ahh Gandhi you are so right. If only young people would think alot more before acting out and reacting. If they counted to 10 just to realize how much jail time they can get, or that they might have to live with the fact they killed someone, or they might get hurt. It should be a normal reaction to think before you do something, especially violent, or that involve drugs and alcohol, or walking out alone at night especially. As in DO NOT DO IT and Push that NO BUTTON!!

A Father: I'm sure this event has changed this young man's life for the better. I hope that the person who did this to him, to include the young lady who may have been involved receives what they deserve to the fullest extent of the law.
