The alleged thief has been taken into police custody. Witnesses at the scene say that he came along willingly with police.
He was placed into a Montgomery County Services Ambulance. No injuries were apparent.

Authorities are currently working to negotiate the capture of a man suspected of stealing an ambulance yesterday, witnesses at the scene in Norristown report. The suspected thief is presently on the roof of a home at Penn and Walnut Streets.

Currently, the 300 block of Penn Street at Walnut is blocked off from all public access as police work to remove the suspect from a rooftop. The Public Works Department has reportedly lent the police an eight-foot ladder to aid in the arrest.
Witnesses can see a male approaching the front of the roof at a home in the 300 block of Penn Street periodically, apparently to survey the scene. There has been no official statement from police yet, and authorities have to release the suspect's name.
A perimeter has been set up around the home to provide safety to passersby and keep eyes on the suspect. Norristown Police Chief Russell Bono is at the scene and is reportedly handling the negotiations.
