Police Warn of Two Phone Scams

In both, callers say they are from law enforcement agencies. But they're not.

Local police are warning of two telephone scams.

In the first scam, Niles police say that a caller identifies himself or herself as being from the State's Attorney's Office and tells you to wire money to settle an outstanding issue. The caller warns an arrest warrant will be issued for you if you do not comply.

In the second scam, the caller says he or she is from the FBI and wants to install "crime fighting equipment" in your yard, and asks you to send money through Western Union.

Niles police advised that law enforcement agencies do not charge for law enforcement services.

They recommended that if you receive such a call, hang up. If you have been been victimized financially by such callers, call the Evanston Police Department at (847) 866-5000.

Another scam everyone should be aware of is the Amway Tool Scam. Google "Stop The Amway Tool Scam Wordpress" for more information, and forward this to every non-Distributor/IBO you know, so they don't get scammed.
