Repeat Burglar Steals Food, Then Money, Police Say
A repeat burglar reportedly went from stealing food from a refrigerator to stealing cash from a bedroom.
Police are investigating a string of three burglaries that occurred at the same apartment on the 900 block of Swede Street.
The victim contacted police on July 1 to report that someone had broken into her home three times in the last week, according to the report. In the first two incidents, the burglar stole food from the refrigerator after gaining access to the apartment through the fire escape, the report states.
During the third incident, the burglar gained entry by prying open the front door, police said. The burglar then went into a bedroom, where they stole $3,000 from a dresser drawer and another $600 from a purse.
The victim told police that they believe the burglar may be someone who lives in the apartment building, since all three incidents occurred during the daytime, while the victim was at work. The victim added that they don't believe any other apartments in the building have been burglarized.
