Reports: Trooper Who Shot, Killed Wife on Desk Duty

The seven-year State Police veteran is doing administrative work while authorities investigate the shooting death of his pregnant wife.

The Pennsylvania State Trooper who in March shot and killed his pregnant wife has been placed on desk duty while the investigation into the shooting continues.

Joseph Miller, a seven-year State Police veteran, is doing administrative work while authorities investigate the shooting death of his wife, Main Line Media News is reporting

Miller on March 7 was cleaning his gun, which he said he did not realize was loaded, when it went off, striking his wife. The gun in question apparently was not his service weapon.

Miller's wife, JoAnne, was transported to Mercy Suburban Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office said at the time. Doctors performed an emergency cesarean section but were unable to save her baby. JoAnne was 23 or 24 weeks pregnant at the time of her death, doctors said.

The couple's two young children were in the family's home on the 3000 block of Stoney Creek Road in East Norriton Township at the time of the shooting.

There have been no recent investigation updates.
