Tredyffrin Township Police are offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the kidnapping and robbery of the owner of an East Norriton jewelry store last week.
According to a release issued by police, the reward is being funded by the Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company and the Pennsylvania Jeweler's Association.
Police say four armed men were lying in wait for the man as he arrived home around 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31. Tredyffrin Detective Sgt. Todd Bereda told Tredyffrin-Easttown Patch that when the man opened the trunk of his car, the four masked gunmen emerged from the shadows and led him inside at gunpoint.
The men then allegedly bound the victim and his wife's hands with duct tape and they were held at gunpoint while two or three of the men ransacked the house looking for jewelry. Two of the attackers then reportedly forced the jewelry store owner into his 2012 Volkswagen Passat and drove him to Shuler's Jewelers in East Norriton while the man's wife was left at the home with two of the gunmen. According to police, the gunmen stayed in the home until they got a call from the robbers at the store. The men then allegedly fled the scenes, leaving both victim's bound at their respective locations.
The suspects were described only as "four black males who were wearing masks and armed with semi-automatic handguns."
According to Tredyffrin-Easttown Patch, Tredyffrin Police, Chester County Detectives, Montgomery County Police, the FBI, East Norriton Police and other agencies are working to find suspects and are reportedly investigating possible links to at least one other .
Tredyffrin Police Detective Sgt. Todd Bereda told Tredyffrin-Easttown Patch that the FBI and Pennsylvania State Police have been brought in to investigate possible links to other cases with similar suspects and m.o.'s. Authorities are investigating whether the case is linked to an organized crime ring.
Leads in Montgomery and Chester counties have led authorities to believe the incident may be connected to other smash-and-grab robberies in our region.
Police are also still seeking the public's help in locating the victim's vehicle – a white 2012 Volkswagon Passat sedan bearing PA registration DJM0696. (See the information sheet in our Photo section.)
