Romano Arrested Monday, Indicted on Child Porn Charges

The U.S. Attorney unsealed an indictment on Monday accusing Romano of trying to induce a child to pose for pornagraphic pictures.

The U.S. Attorney's office has released its indictment of Gary Romano, the Norristown man accused of sexually asssaulting a child.

The indictment charges Romano with the production and possession of child pornography and for attempting to induce a child (identified as "A.L." in the indictment) to pose for sexually explicit photographs. The indictment identifies three photos labeled "Sweet.jpg," "Lyingdown.jpg," and "Holding.jpg" that each contsitute a seperate count. Romano was arrested Monday morning, June 4.

If convicted, Romano faces a maximum sentence of 40 years’ imprisonment, with a mandatory minimum of 15 years’, a $1 million fine, a mandatory minimum of five years up to a lifetime supervised release and $400 in special assessments.

This case was brought as part of the U.S. Department of Justice's Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006. Led by United States Attorneys' Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
