Shooting Death of Trooper's Pregnant Wife Deemed Accidental

The March shooting death of a pregnant East Norriton woman by her husband, a Pennsylvania State Trooper, has been deemed an accident, the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office announced.

JoAnne Miller was shot and killed by her husband, Trooper Joseph Miller, March 7 in their East Norriton home. Miller told authorities he was cleaning his gun when it discharged.

Doctors tried but were unable to save JoAnne Miller's baby. She was estimated to be about 22 weeks pregnant.

The Montgomery County District Attorney's Office, as a result of a three-month investigation, has ruled that though Joseph Miller's actions were negligent, they were unintentional and accidental.

"The totality of circumstances simply reveals that this incident is a tragic, but negligent, accident," District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman said in a statement. 

Ferman said that her office has notified East Norriton Township Police Chief and the Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner of their findings. 

Joseph Miller, a seven-year State Police veteran, had been on desk duty pending the outcome of the investigation.
