Sunoco Clerk Shot in Early Morning Robbery

A group of men in hoodies approached the store around 3 a.m.

The clerk of an East Norriton Sunoco station was shot early Wednesday morning by an armed robber after a group of men wearing hoodies approached the station.

The man, who was shot in the leg around 3:10 a.m. Wednesday, is expected to recover, police told NBC10. He was taken to Paoli Hospital.

The robbery at the station, at U.S. 202 and Germantown Pike, was captured on surveillance video, police said.

East Norriton Sgt. David Boyer told NBC that it appeared the clerk was shot after he couldn't get the cash register open. It can only be opened by a manager, Boyer said.

The Sunoco has a policy that employees working alone cannot open the door to others before 5 a.m., NBC said, and part of the investigation will be into why the clerk didn't follow orders.

The robbers took cigarettes and cash, NBC said.
