According to Norristown Fire Chief Thomas O'Donnell, the cause of was determined to be electrical in nature.
The Norristown Fire Department responded to the 500 block of Walnut Street at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Friday, June 1, where they found a fire burning in the basement of a three-story row home.
Radio reports catalogued by PhillyFireNews.comstate that units arriving on the scene encountered heavy smoke showing from the building.
Firefighters received initial reports that someone may have been in the basement, however all occupants had made it out okay and a search of the premises revealed no one in the building.
"The fire apparently started in basement living quarters and we had to go into the basement to suppress the fire," Norristown Fire Chief Thomas O’Donnell told The Times Herald at the scene on Friday. "We got everyone out safely and there were no injuries."
Norristown firefighters were assisted by crews from Plymouth, Bridgeport, Goodwill, East Norriton, Swedeland, Barren Hill and Center Square fire companies.
