Vehicle Strikes Gas Line, Street Residents Evacuated

The Norristown Fire Department and PECO came to the scene where a Honda Pilot apparently struck a gas line on Ferry Avenue.

The ruptured gas line on the 500 block of Jefferson Street that prompted firefighters to accompany residents from their homes Monday afternoon was allegedly the result of a brick-colored Honda Pilot hitting a pole and bursting a gas line at the 500 block of Ferry Avenue, according to The Times Herald.

The Norristown Fire Department worked with PECO employees to extract the vehicle and close off the damaged line, closing off Main Street between Ford Street and Franklin Street.

“There was a bang and then this loud hissing sound,” said Kenneth Natton, Jr., who saw the crash from his window
