Viewfinder: PAL's 17th Annual Lt. Patty Simons Food Drive

Montgomery businesses, volunteers and law enforcement departments have collected food for weeks, culminating in Thursday delivery parade to the Salvation Army.

For weeks now, Montgomery County police and other law enforcement departments, municipalities, businesses, civic groups, schools and volunteers have been collecting food in collaboration with Greater Norristown Police Athletic League's 17th annual Lt. Patty Simons Food Drive.

The collection is a long-standing effort by PAL that was named in honor of Lt. Patty Simons in 2007. Simons was Norristown's first female police officer and was instrumental in the success of the food drive in its earlier years, but she succumbed to cancer and passed that year.

This year's food was collected from over 35 different locations throughout the county and packed onto trucks at the PAL center for the annual parade to deliver the food to the Salvation Army.
