Woman Falsely Told Police of Child Locked in Vehicle, Say Police

Police found an empty SUV.

A woman who told police that a child was locked in a running vehicle in Norristown faces a charge of false alarms to public safety and more, according to police.  

An officer responded to the 600 block of Haws Avenue on Nov. 7 around 8 a.m. to see about a report of a child who was locked inside of a running vehicle, according to a Norristown police report.

The officer drove, utilizing sirens and lights for the child’s sake, and arrived to see an empty, white Chevrolet Blazer that was running. The officer spoke to the woman who is said to have reported the child, Staci Renee Scott, say police.

Scott was informed of the gravity of making false reports and alarms to law enforcement. Scott then replied “I did what I had to do, my neighbors told me to call police and say there was a child inside,” according to the report.

Scott told police that there had never been a child locked in the vehicle. She said that she had panicked, say police.

The officer was able to get into the vehicle, and Scott signed a Release for Claim for Automobile Damage form. Scott faces charges of false alarms to public safety and fictitious reports to law enforcement authorities according to police.
