Woman Robbed in Front of Police Memorial

A man stole money orders from a woman who was sitting in front of the police memorial near the intersection of Main and Swede streets.

The Norristown Police Department is investigating a strong-armed robbery that occurred on Monday afternoon in front of the police memorial.

Police initially responded to the area of Main and Swede streets at 3:30 p.m. for a report of a robbery in progress. There they spoke with the victim who stated that she had purchased six money orders from the pawn shop at Main and Cherry streets, totaling just under $300, police said.

The victim then walked to Main and Swede streets, where she took a seat in front of the police memorial while holding the money orders in an envelope below her purse, according to the report. A short time later, a black male approached her and stated "give it to me, give it to me," before grabbing the envelope from the victim and running north on Swede Street, the report states.

Police checked the area but were unable to locate the suspect. The victim was advised to return to the pawn shop to see if they could void the money orders, since they were not made out to anyone at the time they were stolen.
