County Commissioners Meet Today; County Launches Campaign Sign Recycling Program

The commissioners will discuss budget matters and Hurricane Sandy-related clean up efforts.

The Montgomery County Board of Commissioners will meet again today at 10 a.m. in the 8th-floor board room at One Montgomery Plaza in Norristown.

While nothing on the agenda is Norristown specific, there's quite of bit of business affecting all county residents on the commissioners' plate, including a discussion of the quarterly budget and the 2013 budget process.

The commissioners will also be declaring a state of emergency, according to the agenda, presumably in response to the damage and destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy in our region this week.

You can download the full agenda for today's meeting in our PDF section.

County Launches Campaign Sign Recycling Program

Just in time for the election, Montgomery County is reviving its campaign sign recycling program. According to a release issued by the county, last year's program collected nearly 8 tons of metal and plastic signs.

The Montgomery County Recycling office partners with ReCommunity Recycling, Sullivan’s Scrap Metals, Cougle’s Recycling and the Montgomery County Democratic and Republican committees to collect and recycle the signs, stakes and posts and encourages candidates and home owners to participate with multiple drop off points.

According to the county, the small corrugated and bag-type plastic lawn signs are recyclable, but should not be tossed into a standard curbside recycling bin. Metal stakes should also not be recycled curbside, but can be recovered at a scrap metal facility.

Following Election Day and through November 21, candidates and home owners will be able to drop off campaign signs at the following locations during normal business hours:

  • Abington Township Highway Yard, 2201 Florey Ln., Abington

People are simply ignorant. The pastor of my church on West Marshall Street is daily picking upRead More empty snack bags, soda cans, and trash that either walkers drop, or motorists throw. We tried to get a trash can, and the borough refused.

Mary Ellen, if you would like to share a neighborhood for The Norristown Project to clean, bringRead More pictures of the area when you come to the Moore Street cleanup. Our volunteers pitch ideas for future cleanups which is how we decided on Moore Street. Maybe Kohn or Main will be a project in July. The possibilities are endless as long as we have volunteers coming out and pitching these ideas.

Dang! I wish I read this when it was posted. I would have loved this opportunity! I know a girl atRead More NAHS who just started a club called F.L.O. (For Ladies Only). The discuss fashion, beauty, etc. If they knew about this they could have fund raised to be apart of this. Being that its one month away, I doubt $750 will be just lying around. I hope Harcum will offer this next summer as well, it's a great school and a wonderful opportunity to get the skills needed to survive in the Fashion Merchandising realm of College.
