FBI, Philly Police Investigating Gov. Corbett's Son-in-Law

Multiple sources say Philadelphia narcotics officer Gerald Gibson has been put on administrative leave.

Last updated 6:20 p.m.

Multiple news outlets are reporting that the son-in-law of Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett is under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Philadelphia Police.

Sources tell NBC10 that Gerald Gibson, a narcotics officer, has been placed on administrative leave. Police reportedly issued a brief statement about an officer being removed from his duties after a joint investigation by the FBI and Internal Affairs. The officer was not reportedly identified and has not been arrested or charged with a crime.

WPVI-TV (6 ABC) reported that Gibson was allegedly found in possession of marked money that was used during a police sting operation.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that according to its sources in law enforcement, Gibson was specifically targeted by the U.S. Attorney's Anti-Corruption Unit and that his supervisors were aware of the sting.

Gibson is said to be separated from Corbett's daughter, Kate Corbett-Gibson, who is a deputy with the state attorney general's office. Corbett led the state attorney general's office prior to assuming the governorship in 2011.

The couple have a 1-year-old son.

Good, Governor Corbett should be the next one to be investigated for the Penn State scandal.

Sounds as though there is a bit of nepetism going on in PA; what a surprise.

it's the Corbett family giving Gibson the screws lol

Guess Daddy was upset about the separation and decided to stick it to the son in law.

The Corbett name keeps popping up in very unfavorable company these days! Too many coincidences to be innocent!

Why is Corbett not under investigation for taking bribes to protect a pedophile?

I Shouldn't have said good, it makes it sound as if I'm glad a cop got arrested. But on the other hand this proves that the system works when it comes to taking down corrupt Police Officers and Politicians. Anyone in the criminal justice field should hold the highest standard of moral an ethical values. We must uphold the integrity of our judicial system so everyone gets a fair trial.

Shut up Roy and go back to Philly, you fit in there.
Ann February 2, 2013 at 01:24 pm
Hanzi, I agree with Roy. This is an OPINION site. He is entitled to his. Get over yourself. You sound nasty!
Ann February 2, 2013 at 01:47 pm
R. Lee, if it were nepotism, they would have looked the other way to save face for Corbett. His fellow officers reported him. Good for them. You can't hold Corbett responsible for someone else's behavior. In regard to Sandusky, Kane is investigating. Corbett says he has nothing to be ashamed of. I will wait for all the facts before I render my decision. I seem to remember a phase that goes something like this...Innocent until proven guilty!

Ann, folks driven by agenda are blinded by their hate. Don't expect fairness on the group-think, echo chamber of the Patch.

Liberals are out of control after Obama won 2nd election

John, you are so right!

Blind hate cuts both ways.
Smedley February 3, 2013 at 03:01 pm
I agree with you John I rarely read or post comments in the patch blogs these days an intelligent conversation is nearly impossible. Most are parroting the garbage they hear in the main stream media. We are divided all right. That's the way they want it. Divided We Fall.
Ann February 3, 2013 at 03:12 pm
Amend, I don't hear hate spewing on both sides here! Can we stay on topic without the nastiness? Don't excuse bad behavior with other bad behavior! You sound silly when you inject yourself that way.
Ann February 3, 2013 at 03:21 pm
Smedley, you hit the nail on the head...divided we fall...that is and has been the Obama presidency...war on women, repub vs. dem, white vs. pretty much everyone, gun control vs. gun rights!!! I could go on. Where is the coming together to better our country? Obama talks a good game...I'll give him that!
Smedley February 3, 2013 at 04:20 pm
This is what I'm talking about Ann. This is B_ll Sh_t. Not Much has changed since Bush left office. There isn"t a dimes worth of difference between the Republicans and Democrats. The only thing they care about Money, Greed, and Getting Elected the next time around. When people start voting for third parties and independents instead of the status quo things will begin to change.
Doing the same thing over and over again the same way and expecting a different result is the definition of Insanity. Albert Einstein

That's my frustration. I wasn't a big Bush fan, but I don't understand the love affair with Obama. How are we better off? I really didn't 't like Romney, but I knew what we had with Obama. I was willing to give Romney a chance. I was willing to give a moderate repub. a chance. I thought he would be more likely to have bipartisanship. After the election, it is clear that Obama is going even more left. We need both parties to come to the middle to move forward. It's obvious that Obama has no intention on a balanced approach. He is all talk. If you are going to insult a group of people and constantly need to prove your superior morality, you are going NO WHERE in moving the ball forward. Look at the way the Hispanics told him to stay out of immigration reform debate because there was bipartisanship, but he injected himself into it anyway. It's all about Obama, not really getting anything done. Talk a good game and make the Republican Party look bad seems to be his long standing plan. It gets us NO WHERE! Obama is blaming the republicans now for HIS economy. He is a child!
Earle Leo Nelson Jr. February 13, 2013 at 02:30 am
And in 3 1/2 more years when he's gone "obummer" their still going to blame Bush, even though it was the democratic congress that wouldn't let George do a god dam thing to fix the economy.

Dang! I wish I read this when it was posted. I would have loved this opportunity! I know a girl atRead More NAHS who just started a club called F.L.O. (For Ladies Only). The discuss fashion, beauty, etc. If they knew about this they could have fund raised to be apart of this. Being that its one month away, I doubt $750 will be just lying around. I hope Harcum will offer this next summer as well, it's a great school and a wonderful opportunity to get the skills needed to survive in the Fashion Merchandising realm of College.
