The Montgomery County Health Department is offering free influenza immunizations for county residents while it also collaborates with the Pennsylvania Department of Health in observing National Influenza Vaccination Week (NIVW), Dec. 8-14, according to a release from the county commissioners.
The purpose of this year’s (NIVW) in Pennsylvania is to spread the word of the importance of influenza immunizations.
Each year, an estimated 36,000 people die due to illnesses related to influenza. Over 200,000 people are hospitalized in the U.S. Those older than 65 years old and individuals with medical conditions that increase their risk from seasonal influenza have the highest rates of death and severe illness.
The county health department will be offering free influenza immunizations for Montgomery County residents from December 9-19, 2013.
