Norristown Council Releases Proposed 2013 Budget

Norristown Municipal Council has been crunching the numbers for the last few weeks and has now made the entire proposed 2013 budget available for public view on the municipality's website. (You can download your own copy in our PDF section.)

There are some figures in the budget some folks might find surprising, like parking violations making up over $1 million of Norristown's revenue and earned income tax revenue going up over $600,000 for next year.

The Times Herald has a breakdown of some other notable facts including:

• The millage rate will stay at 12.36 mills. No increase.
• Pension costs have gone up $1,064,712 over the last four years.
• Health insurance expenses have gone up $296,222. 
• Community Development Block Grants have gone down $332,742.
• Tax-exempt properties in Norristown are estimated to be worth $222 million, which means we're losing $2.7 million in potential revenue.

Council is expected to adopt the final budget at a Dec. 18 meeting.
