The Republican Party of Pennsylvania issued a statement today from Chairman Rob Gleason after a photo reportedly Tweeted from the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C. showed that the Pennsylvania Democratic Party was requiring delegates to show photo ID to pick up credentials.
“The fact that the Pennsylvania Democrats are requiring photo ID to pick up credentials at its own convention is the height of hypocrisy," Gleason said in the release. "The sensational arguments that Democrats have been making against Voter ID simply lose all credibility in this one Twitter photo."
"It is hard to fathom that Democrats are more concerned about protecting their convention than protecting the integrity of Pennsylvania’s election but the fact they implemented their own 'Voter ID' in Charlotte proves it," Gleason continued. "While just another example of 'Do As I Say, Not As I Do,' it also reminds us that it’s time to stop these ridiculous scare tactics. When will the Democrats stop cultivating a culture of fear around voting this election and simply join with us in helping to protect the sanctity of the ballot for all voters?"
Representatives for the Democrats were unavailable for comment.
Norristown Patch will update this post with a response from state Democratic representatives when one is made available.
This idea of no ID required is a lame attempt by a particular party so that the lazy among us, who tend to vote for that party and it's handouts, won't have to go through an extra step because they lost their ID somehow. It's VOTING folks! The only way we choose our leadership. ID is one more assurance that voter fraud isn't coming into play. Lord knows it's happened plenty of times.
What bankrupt narrative? That the country is in dire straits and the current direction is disasterous? That the current administration has made the situation worse? I can't say at this time if a Republican Whitehouse will make any difference, it may be too late, but your base is without a valid foundation and as best I can tell your parroting words you have never really thought about on your own.
Your lacking in your historical overview of just why it became hard to obtain legal government issued identification. A little thing called 9/11. That combined with the rampant fraud associated with ID (i.e. indentity theft) it became more difficult to get ID. Are you claiming that those born to midwives in the South have never opened a bank account, never had a job, never had a Social Security number, never applied for government programs (social or otherwise), never enrolled kids in school, never went to school themselves, never traveled anywhere, never had contact with police......the list is endless. In today's world if you don't have ID your not going to be doing much of anything so I'd imagine voting is low on the priority list.
There may have 30,000 dead residents still on the voter rolls but how many of them signed in to vote or cast a ballot after their deaths. My guess is NONE or the GOP would be parading that about. They haven't, which to me means they haven't quite figured out that they have the opportunity to do so. See what I did there?
“Pro-Second Amendment? The Castle Doctrine, it’s done. First pro-life legislation – abortion facility regulations – in 22 years, done. Voter ID, which is gonna allow Governor Romney to win the state of Pennsylvania, done.” http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/25/mike-turzai-voter-id_n_1625646.html http://www.politicspa.com/turzai-voter-id-law-means-romney-can-win-pa/37153/
I think a voter ID law SHOULD be in effect. But I don't think that it should have been rushed through in a year during a Presidential election. Then again, that's EXACTLY what the GOP wants, so of course they pushed it through.
Maybe there are smarter ways to spend out $$. The Dems are so progressive unless it it change their "untradable players" who are old, overpaid, and not skilled anymore.
Here are numbers they are NOT telling you: 1) 368,000 people STOPPED looking for work in August. Meaning they CANNOT be counted as unemployed. These people have no more unemployment benefits to claim and have realized there are zero jobs out there for them. If you were to re-calculate those numbers and include the people who are no longer looking for work, the unemployment rate would be 12%. This number does not include the UNDEREMPLOYED, or the people who have stopped looking for work over the past 3 years; that number would be an astonishing 23%. 2) 69% of men are working. Meaning 31% are not. The lowest % of working men since the 1940's. 3) The number of employed Americans is at the lowest number in the past 31 years. An incredible number considering there are more people now in the USA than there were in 1981. 4) A record high of 88,921,000 Americans whom are not in the civilian labor force. 5) Manufacturers have cut the most jobs in August than at anytime in the past two years. 6) The supposed "job growth" each month is LESS THAN the number of people LEAVING the workforce every month. People leaving the work force CANNOT be counted as unemployed.
Please check your facts. The PA GOP did not pass the legislation. The PA legislature did. The Department of State has been great in informing constituents on how to obtain Photo ID. Also if you go on VotesPA.com, you can learn of the numerous ways to obtain photo ID for FREE. By the way, college students can present their school ID when voting. Non-drivers can obtain a non-driving photo ID from any DMV with no cost. In addition, it is now mandatory and a law that everyone has healthcare. You cannot get healthcare if you do not provide a photo ID. I don't hear anyone saying that that supresses the minority, the elderly, or "those born in the southern states to midwives."

Don't worry Marc, your young. One day you'll get it....maybe. In the words of Winston Churchill..."If at 20 your not a liberal you have no heart. If at 40 you aren't a consevative you have no brain." Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know....a blanket statement. But with a certain ring of truth to it.
I mean really! Going from "NO! Everybody should have ID's..." to now they are upset that the Dems brought them. What's next to follow? A large democratic turnout at the polls with proper ID's?? The nerve! Then the GOP will have to turn to stacking the polls like they did for W.
