UPDATED: Vehicle Crashes into Perkiomen Polling Place

A Ford Taurus crashed into the Perkiomen Fire Company just before 1 p.m.; the polling place remains open for voters.

Update, 4 p.m. Nov. 7:

According to a press release from the Pennsylvania State Police, a 93-year-old Schwenksville man drove into the Perkiomen Fire Company on Nov. 6, which was serving as a polling place for Election Day.

The man was wearing a steatbelt, and was transported by Skippack EMS to Einstein Medical Montgomery for an evaluation.

Skippack EMS and Perkiomen Fire were on the scene, and the vehicle was towed by Norm's Save Station.

Original Story Follows:

A Ford Taurus crashed into the Perkiomen Fire Company, Perkiomen Township's joint polling place, at 12:50 p.m.

According to Jan Laverty, a volunteer at the polls, a man was driving slowly into a parking spot along the side of the fire company when he sped into the building, crashing into a side door that led into the polling place.

"It seemed like he mistook the brake for the gas," said Laverty.  "He just pounded into the door - he flew forward really hard."

Laverty said that people inside of the building were intially concerned that the noise, and the accompanying smoke through the door, was a bomb.

One voter leaving the fire company said that the vehicle crashed into an empty spot within the polling place - there were no injuries, and no voting machines were affected.

The unidentified man was transported from the scene by an ambulance.

:) I hope he is ok too. I have to admit that I did that once when I was focusing on something else while parking. Luckily didn't hit anything.

That part of the parking lot should be closed anyway, there is not enough room for cars to maneuver and park and the crowd of voters at the same time. Very lucky there were not serious injuries and/or a disruption of voting here.
