Most kids love treats, but how about dog treats?
About 75 Montgomery County fourth graders were given pet treats by a part-time recess aide at the New Hanover Upper Frederick Elementary School in New Hanover Township, according to school officials and media reports.
Boyertown Area School DistrictSuperintendent Richard H. Faidley provided a statement on the incident, which occurred Thursday. According to Faidley’s statement, the treats “may have been misrepresented as cookies."
“Our research on the product indicates that the treat ingredients would not be harmful to people, with exception for those individuals with specific food allergies,” the statement said.
No illnesses have been reported as a result of the incident, which remains under investigation by the Boyertown Area School District and local police, CBS Philly reported.
The aide, who has not been identified, is administrative leave until the investigation into the matter concludes, according to the Pottstown Mercury newspaper.
