School Board Suspends Norristown Area High School Band Program
Lack of student interest reportedly prompted the move.
According to The Times Herald, the school board voted to rescind an agreement for extra pay and extra duty for high school band activities, effectively suspending the marching band program at Norristown Area High School.
Lack of student interest reportedly prompted the move with only 23 students joining the band after several weeks of recruitment efforts. The board had reportedly set a minimum of 25 students for the program to be viable.
"We are not moving the funds out of the marching band," School Board President Denise Ashe told attendees of Monday night's meeting according to the Herald. "We are not looking to eliminate marching band."

In other news, the school board reportedly voted to approve two new elementry school teaching positions – at Gotwals and Hancock – in an attempt to reduce class sizes at those schools.
