Man Airlifted Following Fireworks Mishap

A man lost several fingers after an accident involving fireworks near Astor Street and Harding Boulevard on Thursday night.

A man was injured near Astor Street and Harding Boulevard on Thursday night, after a firework reportedly exploded in his hand.

Police and emergency medical personnel responded to the area at 8:30 p.m. for a report of an amputation. Upon arrival, they encountered a male victim who was missing several fingers, according to MontcoAlerts. The man was airlifted from the scene a short time later.

According to a witness, the man had been lighting M-80s in the area prior to the accident. The witness stated that the man had been placing them on the ground and lighting them, but he then attempted to light one in his hand, which exploded almost immediately, causing the amputation.
