Norristown Project to Host 3 Local Clean-Ups

The projects, meant to help the community, are organized in honor of Martin Luther King.

The Norristown Project is arranging three volunteer events in Norristown on Jan. 18, 2014, to help the community in recognition of the Martin Luther King Day of Service for that weekend.

The three events include clean-ups and reorganizations at the Montgomery County Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC), the historic Selma Mansion and the Centre Theater. Volunteers of all ages can attend any or all of the projects that they wish, according to Norristown Project founder Shae Ashe.

While there is no RSPV required, it would help the Norristown Project for participants to tell them which projects they will participate in. Any questions or RSVPs can be directed to NorristownProject@gmail.com.

The Montgomery County (OIC), 9 a.m.-12 p.m.:

The volunteers will help renovate the basement and paint a GED classroom. The purpose of this part of the project is to help the OIC prepare to expand their programs while also giving the Norristown Project room to store their supplies. Volunteers can help carry broken and old furniture from the building and later do a stringent cleaning of the basement. Those who wish to paint should dress accordingly. About 15 volunteers are needed but more are welcome.
