Rotary Club of Norristown Used-Bike Drive a Success

The Norristown Used-Bike Drive at the recent West Norriton Community Day helped Pedals for Progress donates 130,000 bicycles worldwide.

The Rotary Club of Norristown Used-Bike Drive took place at the West Norristown Community Day on May 18. The used-bike drive was organized to benefit Pedals for Progress, which has received, processed and donated over 130,000 bicycles, 2,000 used sewing machines and $10.8 million in new spare parts to partner charities in 38 developing world countries, according to a Rotary Club of Norristown press release.

The equipment will be reconditioned and sent to developing nations where they are used for transportation, agriculture, and other necessary facets of daily life, as reported on Norristown Patch.

According to the release, disadvantaged people overseas need cheap, non-polluting transportation to get to jobs, markets, customers, and schools. With sewing machines, students can learn to become self-employed dressmakers and tailors.
