A total of 1,563 students received their degrees and certificates from Montgomery County Community College on Thursday evening.
Montgomery County Community College graduated their largest class in school history on Thursday evening, as family and friends packed the Blue Bell campus to see the1,563 students receive their degrees and certificates. The graduating class represents an increase of more than 18-percent from last year, which also includes the highest amount of west-campus graduates in a given year at 293. This year's class also boasted 11 Honors Program participants, 44 students with a 3.9 GPA or higher, and 49 foreign students from 23 countries. Tonight, Montgomery County Community College will graduate its largest class in the school’s history tonight at 7 p.m. at the Central Campus in Blue Bell. The College is warning students and guests that traffic around the college can get extremely congested and to allow for extra travel time to get to the campus. Lawmakers approved a $27.6 billion state budget in a 39-8 vote today.
Restoring $500 million to the proposed state budget, the Pennsylvania State Senate approved a $27.6 billion state budget in a 39-8 vote Wednesday. The Republican-penned bill restored funding to basic and higher education, human services programs, hospitals, nursing homes and services for individuals with disabilities — winning the approval of many Democrats, as well. The college's Center for Entrepreneurial Studies and Woman-Owned Business Program earned MCCC's 'Innovation of the Year' Award.
Each year, Montgomery County Community College (MCCC) recognizes one outstanding program or project as its Innovation of the Year award recipient. According to a release issued by the college, the projects are evaluated against criteria established by the League for Innovation in the Community College. Criteria include quality, efficiency, cost effectiveness, replication, creativity and timeliness. MCCC's 2012 Innovation of the Year was awarded to the Center for Entrepreneurial Studies (CES), in collaboration with the Woman-Owned Business Program. ASTM International empployees accompanied Whitehall students on a trip to the Riverbend Environmental Education Center in Gladwyne Today.
According to a release issued by ASTM International, the West Conshohocken-based company sponsored a field trip for third-graders from Whitehall Elementary on Thursday, May 3. The students travelled to Woodmont, a private estate near Riverbend Environmental Education Center in Gladwyne. The educational class trip featured a Watershed lesson and model as well as activities in Woodmont’s ponds and streams. ASTM International sponsors several field trips a year to Riverbend for local elementary schools in the Norristown, Colonial and Upper Merion school districts. Kids of all ages enjoyed EarthFest at Temple Ambler on Friday.
The 10th annual EarthFest, held at Temple Ambler, was hosted by the Center for Sustainable Communities and welcomed schools and groups from the Ambler and Philadelphia region to learn about being green. Exhibitors on Friday included the Academy of Natural Sciences, Sesame Place, Elmwood Park Zoo, Wondergy, and more. More than 90 exhibitors, ranging from nonprofits to for-profit businesses and school groups presented ideas, projects and initiatives. The Philadelphia Horitcultural Society also held their ninth annual Junior Flower Show at EarthFest, which gives students a way to express themselves through the natural world.

The school's Idea Garden is part of the Family Consumer Sciences curriculum.
On Friday, April 20, East Norriton Middle School (ENMS) Family Consumer Sciences teacher Pat West assisted students in planting the herb garden section of the ENMS Idea Garden. All of the herbs planted were graciously donated by Whole Foods Markets, and will be used as part of the Family Consumer Sciences curriculum at ENMS.

The public turned out to pack the meeting room at Monday night's school board meeting where high school guidance counselor Ernest Hadrick and supporters had come to ask the district to consider naming the track and field portion of the high school's new athletic complex after former Norristown Area High School track star and Olympic medal-winner Joshua "Josh" Culbreath. The board denied the request in a 7-2 vote, but suggested they would reconsider the proposal at a later date.
