Norristown Soldier Re-enlists at Memorial Wall of the Fallen in Afghanistan

Sgt. Jasmine Cotton, of the 101st Airborne Division, pledged her oath at the memorial in Salerno, Afghanistan.

According to a story provided by the U.S.'s Defense Video & Imagery Distribution System (DVIDS), a Norristown native and U.S. Army soldier recently re-enlisted in the service while still deployed in Afghanistan. Sgt. Jasmine Cotton, a signal support non-commissioned officer from Headquarters Company, 3rd Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), recently made her second pledge to serve her country for a second term of enlistment. Sgt Cotton reportedly made her pledge at the Memorial Wall of the Fallen at the Forward Operating Base in Salerno, Afghanistan while deployed in Operation Enduring Freedom. VIDEO: Lt. Stephanie Rees Receives a Hero's Welcome

Lt. Stephanie Rees, of Collegeville, and her boyfriend, Lt. Joshua Worth, received a heartwarming surprise upon their return home from a deployment to Afghanistan.

For the second time in a week, the residents of Collegeville took to the streets to welcome home a local soldier returning home from a deployment to Afghanistan. On Thursday evening, it was Lieutenant Stephanie Rees, of Collegeville, and her boyfriend, Lieutenant Joshua Worth, on the receiving end of the surprise welcoming committee, which was comprised of local volunteers, organizations, and members of local EMS units. When Lieutenant Stephanie Rees returned home from her deployment in Afghanistan on the evening of August 2, she was expecting a quiet trip home to Collegeville with her parents and her boyfriend, Lt. Joshua Worth, who returned from deployment with her.  Instead, scores of veterans, emergency services personnel and citizens were waiting to welcome them. “I am so surprised,” Rees said, with Worth, her parents, Jill and Rod, and her dog, Lilly, by her side. “I was just expecting my parents to take me to dinner!” Click here to see video of Lt. 4th Annual 'On Your Marc' Run Honors Fallen Soldier

The 5k walk/run honors fallen solider Marc J. Small, and benefits children with speech disabilities.

From Lower Providence Township: The 4th annual "On Your Marc" benefit 5k run/walk will be held Saturday, Aug. 4, starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Lower Providence Township Fire Department at 3199 Ridge Pike in Eagleville. Check in begins at 7:30 a.m. The event, draws well over 600 participants each year, honors Marc J. Small, a U.S. Army Special Forces Green Beret medic killed while serving his country in Afghanistan in 2009. Marc’s mother and sister, Mary and Megan MacFarland, are co-founders of the race in cooperation with Lower Providence Township. Proceeds from the run benefit Small Steps in Speech, a 501(c)3 nonprofit foundation started by Marc’s fiancée, Amanda Charney, to help children with speech disabilities. Over $90,000 has been …

FBI Warns of Computer Viruses in Fake bin Laden Death Photos

Spammers and hackers are using fake photos of Osama bin Laden's corpse to infect computers.

The Fedral Bureau of Investigation (FBI) today warns computer users to exercise caution when they receive emails that purport to show photos or videos of Osama bin Laden's recent death. This content could be a virus that could damage your computer. This malicious software or "malware" can embed itself in computers and spread to users' contact lists, thereby infecting the systems of associates, friends and family members. These viruses are often programmed to steal your personally identifiable information.   The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) urges computer users to not open unsolicited (spam) emails, including clicking links contained within those messages. Government officials warn of retaliation by al-Qaeda for Osama bin Laden’s death. But, Montgomery County Community College instructor Benn Prybutok said, “Be aware, but don’t fear.” Prybutok is MCCC’s director of the criminal justice program, and teaches terrorism, counterterrorism and homeland security courses.  He said Montgomery County has the same type of terrorist targets as urban areas.
