Ramp Meters Go in Effect on 476 in Plymouth Tomorrow

The meters will run during high traffic times, beginning Wednesday, Aug. 22, in Plymouth Township.

According to PennDOT, ramp meters at the four entrance ramps to Interstate 476 (Blue Route) in Plymouth Township will begin operation on Wednesday, Aug. 22 at 3 p.m. The meters will be operating at: The ramp meters are traffic signals without the amber caution light and will be in operation Monday through Friday from 6:30 to 9 a.m. and from 3 to 7 p.m. They can also be used during emergency situations. According to PennDOT, the ramp meters stagger the "rate at which vehicles enter I-476 so that merging vehicles are less likely to slow mainline traffic, thus improving travel times and lessening the potential for crashes at entrance ramps." More Blue Route Lane Closures This Week

Overnight construction on I-476 is part of a $71 million dollar improvement project.

  According to a release issued by PennDOT, construction on Interstate 476 (the Blue Route) is scheduled for this week, May 14-18, as work continues on the final stages of the $71 million improvement project between the Interstate 76 (Exit 16) and Germantown Pike (Exit 20) interchanges. Scheduled work activities on the substantially-completed project include diamond grinding of the pavement, pavement joint cutting and sealing, erection of sign structures, installation of rumble strips and line painting in the 3.2-mile work zone. Blue Route Lane Closure Tuesday Night for Sign Structure Installation

Southbound I-476 will be reduced to two lanes between Ridge Pike and the Schuylkill Tuesday night to allow for the installation of a sign structure.

According to a release issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), southbound Interstate 476 in will be reduced to two lanes between Ridge Pike and Interstate 76 from 10 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, to 5 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29, for the installation of an overhead sign structure, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced today. In addition to closing one of the three southbound travel lanes, crews will also close the southbound I-476 deceleration lane to the I-76 off-ramp (Exit 16) during the overnight operation. Expect Weekend Long Lane Closures on 476

Crews will work through the weekend to restore three lanes on Northbound side of I-476.

According to a release issued by PennDOT, lane closures are scheduled this weekend, Friday, Oct. 28 through Monday, Oct. 31 on northbound Interstate 476 (the Blue Route) between the Interstate 76 (Exit 16) and Germantown Pike West (Exit 20) interchanges as crews work to restore three travel lanes on the northbound side of the highway.  Two travel lanes are currently open on the northbound side of I-476 and one northbound “express” lane runs on the southbound side of the highway as crews complete rebuilding the northbound lanes.  When the upcoming weekend operation finishes early on Monday, Oct. 31, the northbound side of I-476 will return to its normal three-lane pattern. Nighttime lane restrictions are in place this week on the Blue Route for road and bridge construction.

According to a release issued by PennDOT, drivers on northbound Interstate 476 will encounter nighttime lane restrictions in both directions this week, Aug. 8-12, for road and bridge construction between the Interstate 76 (Exit 16) and Ridge Pike (Exit 18) interchanges. One of the two lanes on the northbound side of the interstate will be closed on Monday and Tuesday nights, Aug. 8-9, from 8 p.m. each evening until 6 a.m. the following morning between the I-76 and Ridge Pike interchanges. Periodic full stoppages will also occur northbound early Tuesday, Aug. 9, between midnight and 5 a.m. while crews complete a traffic shift to move northbound vehicles onto the rebuilt outside half of the interstate north of the Schuylkill River Bridge. …

Northbound lane closures are in effect tonight and tomorrow for bridge construction.

According to a release issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), drivers traveling north on Interstate 476 in Montgomery County will encounter nighttime lane closures Wednesday and Thursday, July 13 and 14, for bridge construction at the Interstate 76 Interchange (Exit 16). One of the two northbound lanes on the northbound side of I-476 will be closed at the bridge over I-76 on both nights from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.
