How often did you meet your friends at the eagle outside John Wanamaker's at Montgomery Mall? How many times did you try to drop a wishing penny near it? In 1995, the Wanamaker Eagle outside the then John Wanamaker's department store at Montgomery Mall flew north forever — and it's now perched outside Blue Mountain High School in Schuylkill County. Fans of the Facebook page "Old Images of Montgomery County, PA" recently reminisced about the former popular meeting spot at Montgomery Mall in Montgomeryville. According to a November 2008 article in The Reporter, that same 7-foot-tall granite and bronze eagle is now the meeting place — and the mascot — of the high school. Up until 1995, Wanamaker's did business at the anchor store that is now …

Congratulations to Donna MacNeal, the winner of our Father’s Day Contest and $500. This is what Donna had to say about her father: I have to say I had the best dad in the world. When he was a young man he got laid off from his job and that was it, he decided to have his own company. My father started off with a small truck picking up trash and then he made his own company. (He wasn't the biggest company but certainly the best). He gave his children everything we needed. Love, support, a wonderful home, with help from his wife of course. My dad had passed away 2 years ago now but I have to say daddy thanks for all you have given us and I love and miss you more than you know. Love your very proud daughter. xoxo Happy Father's Day!! Patch …

Editor's note: We have a winner! Please see our updated story to read the story submitted by contest winner Donna MacNeal. Congratulations! The Patch staff wants to thank everyone for such amazing, heartbreaking and laugh-out-loud comments about the first #1 man in your life, Dad. Father's Day is days away and many of you may be wondering what you can give to your father to thank him for all that he has given to you. Gifts can be thoughtful, but sometimes it’s the words that mean more, that show you truly care and appreciate what he did. We’d like to give each of you the opportunity to tell the greater Philadelphia and Lehigh Valley areas why your father is so special and what makes him so wonderful. You may have a story you’d like to …

After weeks of voting, we have a winner in our "Greatest Sports Fan" contest. It was a tough competition with some serious super fans showing off their stuff, but one fan's devotion was so clear, so beautiful, so permanent, that it was pretty clear who had won voters' hearts. Patch reader Tara Sarica submitted the winning photos of a Phillies super fan who's tattoos of Harry Kalas, the Vet, and the Philly Phanatic testify to a lifelong commitment to our Fightin' Phils. Her entry garnered more than half of the 125 votes we received in our contest. We'll be contacting Tara shortly to let her know how she can claim her prize. Thanks to all of those who entered or voted in our contest. You're all super fans in our books.
