Norristown High Assistant Basketball Coach Greg Bates was reportedly hit with a brick during a fight that happened after a game against Cheltenham High School on Friday.
A basketball game against Cheltenham High on Friday night turned ugly for the visiting Norristown Eagles when close to a hundred Cheltenham supporters reportedly attacked the visiting team on their way to the bus after the game. Norristown had won the game 59-38, and tensions from the heated game apparently spilled off the court. Assistant coach sent for stitches after Norristown/Cheltenham post-game fight erupts in the hallway.
As the Norristown High School's boys basketball game ended in Cheltenham, the battle on the court was soon taken out into the hallway. The result was an assistant coach from Norristown heading to the hospital for stitches. Norristown, which had already captured the Suburban One title, won the game 59-38. As the players returned to the locker room, things got physical out in the hall, according to a report in The Times Herald. According to the report, the fans of Cheltenham came after players and coaches on the Norristown team. A Norristown man and his girlfriend were found in bad shape after a reported spat on Pawlings Road in Phoenixville.
According to Lower Providence Police, at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7, officers responded to the 1500 block of Pawlings Road in Phoenixville for an unknown disturbance. On the scene, police encountered Rahsaan Boynes, of the 1000 block of Willow Street, his girlfriend, Rolanda Speller, 27, of the 800 block of Kohn Street, and another male by a tan Buick on the northbound lane of Pawlings Road. It was reported that Boynes and Speller were both observed to have injuries consistent with a physical fight. Further signs of an altercation were observed on the ground and on the driver’s side door of the car. The initial reports indicated a riot, but police are saying it was a much less substantial altercation.
Police have offered more information on the incident at Saint Gabriel’s Hall on Monday, June 4. Two juveniles were arrested after starting a fight, but not quite a riot, authorities say. According to Lower Providence Police, at 11:42 a.m. on Monday, the department responded to a report of a disturbance in the dining hall of the juvenile detention facility for court committed males owned by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Because the initial report of the fight seemed to have exaggerated its size, police units from West Norriton Township, Schuylkill Township, Upper Providence Township, Upper Merion Township, and Valley Forge National Historic Park responded to assist Lower Providence Township police units. Montgomery News reports that The American Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania will open new shelters for those in the greater Philadelphia area displaced by flooding. Eisenhower Middle School on 1601 Markley Street will open later this evening as a shelter. Tropical Storm Lee has worsened flooding conditions left from Hurricane Irene two weeks prior and fears continue that the next few days could bring additional rainfall. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation issued cautions to motorists driving near rivers steams and creeks. Meanwhile, PennDOT crews have continued to clear inlets so that water drains properly and roadways stay barricaded. A neighborhood fight turned especially violent. One woman was flown to a Philadelphia hospital, and at least one man is in custody.
At least one woman has been shot and one man is in custody following an argument that turned violent today at East Oak and High Alley (just below Green Street) near New Hope Baptist Church. Neighbors were tight-lipped about the details of today's violence, but the fight that allegedly errupted between two women shortly before 11 a.m. was witnessed by several residents waiting in line at New Hope Baptist Church. According to some witness reports, the two women were fighting and a man came to the aid of one woman and began to help her fight the other woman. Two stabbings and a shooting have been reported at multiple locations since early this morning.
The Norristown Police Department and emergency services have had their hands full Saturday as reports of violent incidents have continued to come in since early this morning. The violence started with a report of a stabbing at Pine and Wood streets just after 5 a.m. this morning. Police have been unavailable to release any details of the incident, but the victim was reportedly stabbed twice and transported from the scene by helicopter to an unnamed hospital. The victim's condition is unknown at this time. At 6:30 a.m. police and EMS responded to 1012 Green St. for a report of multiple subjects with guns.
