Montgomery businesses, volunteers and law enforcement departments have collected food for weeks, culminating in Thursday delivery parade to the Salvation Army.
For weeks now, Montgomery County police and other law enforcement departments, municipalities, businesses, civic groups, schools and volunteers have been collecting food in collaboration with Greater Norristown Police Athletic League's 17th annual Lt. Patty Simons Food Drive. The collection is a long-standing effort by PAL that was named in honor of Lt. Patty Simons in 2007. Simons was Norristown's first female police officer and was instrumental in the success of the food drive in its earlier years, but she succumbed to cancer and passed that year. This year's food was collected from over 35 different locations throughout the county and packed onto trucks at the PAL center for the annual parade to deliver the food to the Salvation Army. …

Employees of Costco donated 84 turkeys to Montgomery Township Police for the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Food Drive. The turkeys were then dropped off at the Salvation Army in Norristown for distribution

Employees of Costco Wholesale in Montgomery Township on Dec. 4 donated 84 turkeys, totaling 2,000 pounds or one ton, toward the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Food Drive. The turkeys were given to Officer Jim Matlack of Montgomery Township Police for donation to the food drive. Matlack, in turn, delivered the turkeys to Salvation Army in Norristown to be distributed to food banks in the county. The county Law Enforcement Food Drive runs to Dec. 20. The annual drive collects food for the Salvation Army Norristown Corps for Montgomery County residents in need.
The 17th Annual Lt. Patty Simons Law Enforcement Food Drive is currently underway and collecting food to stock the shelves of the Salvation Army for folks in need in Montgomery County. Food is being accepted at various drop-off locations throughout the county from now through Dec. 19. On Dec. 20, the food will be delivered on a flatbed truck from Greater Norristown PAL to the Salvation Army in Norristown accompanied by a caravan of Montgomery County Law Enforcement personnel in their vehicles and by local fire trucks. Collection efforts for the 16th annual Lt. Patty Simon Food Drive ends on Wednesday Dec. 21
The Salvation Army has been partnering with local law enforcement agencies, businesses and individuals for the 16th annual Lt. Patty Simon Food Drive this holiday. Named for the active and vocal officer who originally formed the drive, the annual event is designed to honor Simon's legacy while providing for a “cause that was dear to her heart,” according to GNPAL Director Brett Wells. Weeks ago, collection bins were placed throughout the area and new toy drop offs are being collected at Greater Norristown PAL Center. The last day for collection is Tuesday, Dec. 20. Employees in Skanska USA’s Greater Philadelphia office recently held their annual food drive and donated the food to the Salvation Army in Norristown. The group also held a pot luck lunch to raise money for the cause. Employees delivered the food on Friday, Nov. 18, just in time for Thanksgiving. The volunteers brought two hams, three turkeys, and hundreds of additional food items to the Salvation Army. Skanska’s Greater Philadelphia office, participates in various altruistic organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, PhilAbundance, Ronald McDonald House and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

McDonald's may proudly boast “Over a Billion Served,” but the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) can say the same when it comes to pounds of food collected for the needy. Since 1993, the NALC has collected more than 1 billion pounds of food through its annual nationwide event, "Stamp Out Hunger"—America’s largest single-day food drive. This Saturday, more than 1,500 NALC branches from every state, involving more than 10,000 cities and towns, will have more than 230,000 letter carriers collect non-perishable goods from people’s mailboxes.
