NAEF Golf Outing Rescheduled for July 15

The annual fundraiser for the Norristown Area Education Foundation is being moved to accomodate more players.

From the Norristown Area Education Foundation: The date of the 8th Annual Norristown Area Education Foundation Golf Outing has been moved. The event will not take place on Monday, May 13 as previously scheduled but instead will be on Monday, July 15, 2013. The venue remains the Plymouth Country Club in Plymouth Meeting.  "It is our sincere hope that, by holding the golf outing in the summer, more teachers and school district staff will be able to support it. Our goal is to include as many people as possible," said Dan Delaney, NAEF Board member and Chair of the Golf Outing Committee. Laurel House to Hold Benefit Walk This Weekend in Norristown

The domestic violence agency has partnered with Walk a Mile in Her Shoes on a benefit event that asks men to walk a mile in high-heeled shoes to protest sexual assault and gender violence.

Laurel House, the Norristown-based domestic violence agency that offers protection and services for abused women across Montgomery County is partnering with the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes organization for a benefit event this Saturday, May 4, at the Norristown Farm Park. The event will be held rain or shine. Check-in begins at 9 a.m., opening remarks at 10 a.m. and the walk kicks off at 10:45 a.m.  The event is aimed at encouraging men to stand up against sexual assault and gender violence, calling attention to the issue by having them literally walk a mile in women's high heels. Preston Elliot, of the popular Preston and Steve Show on WMMR, will emcee the event. Scene Around Town – 'At the Sock Hop' with the ACPPA Community Art Center

Close to 150 residents and supporters joined the ACPPA Community Art Center on Saturday at the '50s-themed spring fundraiser, 'At the Sock Hop.'

The ACPPA Community Art Center held its annual spring fundraiser on Saturday, April 27. This year's theme, "At the Sock Hop," featured a live rockabilly band, dancing, diner-themed fare, a costume competition and plenty of fun for everyone. The ACPPA also honored John Doyle, Norristown Area High School teacher and Iron Age Theatre artistic director, with its 2013 Luminary Award for his tireless work in bring the light of the arts to Norristown residents. 'On Your Marc' Run Planned for Aug. 3

For the local fundraiser's fifth anniversary, participants are invited to honor a fallen hero.

From Lower Providence Township: Something very special is planned to mark the 5th anniversary of the “On Your Marc” 5K event. This year, participants will be invited to run or walk in honor of a fallen hero, be it a serviceman or woman, police officer or first responder. The run will be held Saturday, Aug. 3, starting and finishing at the Lower Providence Fire Company, 3199 Ridge Pike in Eagleville.  Participants can choose to run in memory of a loved one or choose a local hero prior to the race.  Names of the fallen heroes will be displayed on the numbers worn by the racers. “On Your Marc” was founded by Lower Providence Township residents Mary and Megan MacFarland. Candy Wrapper Collection Benefits Elmwood Park Zoo

Elmwood Park Zoo is collecting candy wrappers, chip bags and more for Terracycle.

Eating through a lot of Easter candy? Make all those candy wrappers earn money for Elmwood Park Zoo by dropping them off at the Admissions counter. The wrappers will be sent to Terracycle, which converts waste into a "wide variety of products and materials," according to their website. Waste is upcycled or recycled to create new products. Besides candy wrappers - including the mini wrappers - Elmwood Park Zoo is collecting stackable yogurt containers, empty toothpaste tubes; chip, pretzel, or tortilla chip bags; energy bar wrappers, juice pouches, cell phone and electronics, keyboards and computer mice and much more. If you're searching for something pretty to bring to Easter dinner on Sunday, swing by Jefferson Fire Company at 85 School Lane now through Saturday to make your purchases. Norristown Cops Joining the 'Brad Fox 'Stache Bash'

Law enforcement officers from all over the area are signing up to raise money for the Fox family by showing off their facial follicle forte.

Some Norristown police officers have joined more than 60 of their brothers in blue and signed on to raise money for the family of slain Plymouth Police officer Bradley Fox by participating in the Brad Fox 'Stache Bash in April. The Plymouth Township Police Association, in conjunction with the Whitemarsh Township and Conshohocken Borough Police Departments, have organized the event in which police officers and law enforcement officials throughout Montgomery County will grow out their most creative mustaches. "In keeping with a sense of humor that Brad would surely appreciate, participating officers will channel their inner Tom Selleck and grow a mustache for 40 days,” according to the organizers. Local Residents March to End Hunger

3k Walk/5k Run to support Meals On Wheels scheduled for Saturday, April 13 at Montgomery County Community College.

On Saturday, April 13, Montco-area residents will gather for the 3rd Annual Wayne McKallip 3k Walk and 5k Run on the main campus of Montgomery County Community College. The fundraiser, hosted by the Senior Adult Activity Center of Montgomery County (Montco SAAC), seeks to help Meals On Wheels "Outrun Senior Hunger One Meal at a Time."
