23-year-old Shae Ashe has launched a fundraising initiative on Indiegogo.com to help restore Norristown to its former glory.
Looking to start a grass-roots movement to clean up both the image and streets of Norristown, 23-year-old Shae Ashe has launched a fundraising initiative on Indiegogo.com in the hopes of revitalizing his once-proud hometown. Titled "The Norristown Project", Ashe is looking to raise $10,000 on the popular fundraising site, which will then be used to help clean up the exterior of blighted homes, trim overgrown lawns, remove graffiti, remove trash, and much more. "Since I have been around, Norristown has always had the image of 'dirty and ghetto,' but I don’t see that in my town," said Ashe. "I see the beauty that once was and can be again. I have hopes that 'The Norristown Project' can bring the inspiration needed to get the community …

Joe Cintron has a lot of friends willing to help him, but he needs a little extra right now. Cintron is reaching out through cyberspace on indiegogo.com, an online funding platform that lets users raise money for any campaign or personal project, to help him find funds to purchase a wheelchair van he direly needs. According to Cintron's campaign page, the Norristown man has been in a wheelchair for the last 30 years. As a teenager, the Norristown Area High School student dreamed of college and a career in the NFL, but a tragic accident at a party in 1981 left him a C4-C5 quadriplegic, paralyzed from the neck down. Since then, Cintron has lived with and been cared for by his mother, now 66 years old. "She has literally made me her life…

All proceeds from the upcoming fundraiser to go to local law enforcement-related charities
Looking to surpass their 2011 fundraising efforts, the Wheels of Justice cycling team is planning to host a Date Auction on Wednesday, April 4, with all proceeds going to local law enforcement-related charities. The fundraiser will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at The Limit in Blue Bell--formerly known as Reeds. Attendees will be able to bid on a date with their favorite local police officers, sheriffs and other law enforcement personnel, but those who are already saddled with a ball-and-chain can still enjoy the three-hour open bar and bid on a variety of sports tickets and memorabilia that are also up for auction. "We've done a number of different [fundraisers], but this event was the brainchild of the group of assistant district …

According to 6ABC Action News, the students at Whitehall Elementary School recently presented a check for $2,554.81 to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to help people suffering with the diseases. "I wanted to really help the people who have cancer," 8-year-old Bryanna Skipwith told the reporter from Action News who covered the story. "When I was raising money, I asked my mom for all the money in my piggy bank." The children were bolstered when 3rd-grade teacher, Gina Walsh, told them how she lost her brother, Tony Ciaccio Jr., to leukemia at age 30. The children raised $2,054.81 themselves and the Tony Ciaccio Jr. Foundation added an additional $500 (and $1000 for the Ronald McDonald House.) See Action News' coverage in the video above …

Seriously??? We live near McCann Park and had planned on doing SOMETHING to bring it back to it's glory days. Thank you for potentially saving me an unwarranted fine. Don't even get me started on what happens when you try to fight an unwarranted fine in this town. We almost moved out a few years ago because of an unwarranted fine.   more ›
