Viewfinder: The Family Summit

The ICN teamed with CAB and the NASD to hold the annual Family Summit on Wednesday at Eisenhower Middle School.

Children and their parents turned out in droves for this year’s Family Summit on Wednesday at Eisenhower Science and Technology Leadership Academy. The event was sponsored by the Interagency Council of Norristown, the Community Advisory Board and the Norristown Area School District. Parents made use of the resource fair to gather information about local social services, summer camps and after school activities while the kids participated in a community mural art project led by ACPPA Community Art Center, meeting some furry friends from the Elmwood Park Zoo, and did a little dancing, Zumba-style, thanks to the Audubon Y.

The fourth annual Family Summit will take place Wednesday, April 27, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Eisenhower Science and Technology Leadership Academy. The event is free and open to all Norristown children and families, and will feature opportunities and resources that promote family fun, fitness and safety. New Vaccination Laws Affect Seventh-Graders

Parents of sixth-graders need to plan ahead.

Vaccination laws in Pennsylvania have changed for the 2011-2012 school year, and the Montgomery County Immunization Coalition is spreading the word. Before starting school in the fall, children in all grades must have four doses of tetanus, four doses of diphtheria, three doses of polio, two doses of measles and mumps, one dose of rubella, three doses of Hepatitis B, and two doses of varicella (chicken pox) or a history of the disease. Most children receive these vaccines before the age of 5. According to Kalyn Roberts, public health nursing supervisor at the Montgomery County Department of Health, there are also two vaccinations that children entering seventh grade will be required to have for the first time—one dose of Tdap (if five …
