Neighbors report hearing a number of shots fired in the area Tuesday afternoon.
At the same time firefighters were responding to a house fire in the 600 block of West Main Street on Tuesday afternoon, Norristown Police were rushing to the corner of Jacoby and Green streets for a report of multiple shots fired in the area. Officers cordoned off the corner at approximately 4 p.m. on April 2, and canvased the street and the surrounding area for evidence and spent shell casings. Several casings were visible in the street. No victims were reported injured in the incident, but according to The Times Herald, the windows of at least five cars were damaged by the gunfire. The 21-year-old man was shot late Wednesday night in an apparent robbery attempt.
An official from Paoli Hospital confirmed on Monday that the 21-year-old male who suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach late Wednesday night, Nov. 21, is still hospitalized but in stabile condition. According to reports from the Norristown Police Department, officers were dispatched to the area of DeKalb and Elm streets just after 11:45 p.m. for a report of shots fired which was upgraded to a possible shooting while officers were en route. On the scene, officers discovered the victim, a 21-year-old Norristown man, laying on the north side of the 100 block of East Jacoby Street. An electrical fire that started in the basement of the old Davenport Funeral Home on East Jacoby Street shut down the neighborhood today.
UPDATE: 4:15 p.m.: Norristown Fire Department responded to a call of an electrical fire in a home at 101 East Jacoby Street shortly after 2 p.m. today and was joined on the scene by Bridgeport, Norriton, Goodwill and Barren Hill fire companies. Traffic in and out of the neighborhood was shut down while crews worked on the scene. According to @MontcoAlerts, fire crews encountered smoke on all floors of the building when they arrived on scene.
