Wildwood's beaches will stay cost-free this summer.
The chill of a code blue in mid-February makes many yearn for the hot days of summer. As residents from Montgomery County start to make Jersey Shore plans, they'll be happy to know more cash won't have to come out of your pocket to hit the beach. According to a report by The Philly Post, Wildwood city officials decided Wednesday that they would not approve an admission fee program on its beaches this summer. CBS Philly reports said Mayor Ernie Troiano was in favor of the fees. He felt that with the city's shortfalls in budget could be covered by the new beach fees. It's been said it's far better to have a neighbor who's near, than a brother who's far away, but in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, Americans across the nation have proven to be the best neighbors and the strongest of families. As disruptive as Hurricane Sandy was when it reached the Philadelphia suburbs, its impact along the New Jersey coastline was devastating. Here, the storm shut down businesses and schools while knocking out power to hundreds of thousands of people. But on the shore towns where it made landfall, Sandy altered the entire coastline, maybe forever. The storm inundated towns along New Jersey's barrier islands, washing away beaches, amusements, and stretches of boardwalk while causing property damage expected to cost billions of dollars to repair. The final season will begin airing in October.
Love or hate its rambunctious cast, the show that made Seaside Heights famous — or, at least, infamous — is going off the air. MTV announced Thursday afternoon its hit series Jersey Shore will end after a recently taped season airs this fall. The sixth season of the series, which since 2009 has chronicled the oft-drunken misadventures of eight twentysomethings living in a house on Ocean Terrace in Seaside Heights, New Jersey will premiere Oct. 4 at 10 p.m. Lately, the production crews have been filming in Manchester. But when the season ends, the show and the cast will not return. Lucy remembers family vacations at the shore.
It’s officially summer, and we’ve had a heat wave to prove it. Thoughts of vacation and going to the shore are on many peoples’ minds. Me? I’m not known for enjoying outdoor activities. In fact, I’ve always said that my favorite outdoor activity is coming back inside. Age has only deepened that sentiment. That being said, I just love the ocean. I’ll stand there, admiring it for several, long seconds, then go back to shopping on the boardwalk. As I’m sure you’ve gleaned, I don’t venture out on the beach all that often. The exception to that are random early morning walks on the shore collecting sea shells. And if I want to splash around in water, there’s always the condo’s pool. According to NewsWorks.org, New Jersey’s annual "State of the Shore" address, in which scientists and ocean experts rate the water quality and beach conditions of the local beaches, reports that "the Shore" is better than ever. Kim Kosko, of the New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium, told Newsworks that the unseasonably warm weather was a boon for Jersey beaches. "Because of the mild winter, we had no weather that had a serious impact worse than a couple hurricanes and large storms," Kosko told NewsWorks. What if Pennsylvania and Delaware were finally fed up with the national joke that is New Jersey and decided to do something about it?
In a move that is shocking many, the First and Second States (Delaware and Pennsylvania) have declared war on the Third State (New Jersey). The geography of New Jersey is a large peninsula bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, the Delaware River and Delaware Bay. The only land access to the Garden State is via New York. The opening of this war will take place in coordination with Fourth of July celebrations. Both Delaware and Pennsylvania plan to blow up the bridges that link New Jersey to their states as part of municipal and county fireworks displays.
