Love Stories: Kathleen Loves Cliff

Patch asked our readers for love stories on Valentine's Day and Kathleen wrote to tell us about her best friend – her husband of 42 years, Cliff.

"I know we are OLD, but we are still best buddies and Valentines," wrote Kathleen Levering.   This year, Kathleen and her husband, Cliff, celebrated their 42nd Valentine's Day together as a married couple with two sons and four grandkids. "We still make each other smile and laugh everyday," wrote Kathleen. "We still take care of each other everyday and worry about each other everyday!"   Kathleen says the pair start every morning together with a smile. "This sweet and loving man makes it easier for me to face my day because I know that at the end of the day, I know we get to be together," she wrote.

Love Stories: Angela Loves Brian

Patch asked our readers for love stories on Valentine's Day and Angela couldn't wait to tell us about her pair of men – Brian and little Jaxon.

Angela says a picture is worth a thousand words. That's why she sent us this photo series of her love story – a picture of her and Brian dating, their engagement picture, a wedding picture and a picture of the happy couple expecting their first child. "My husband and I both work in the Emergency Medical Services field. I was a volunteer with a local ambulance company and he had just gotten hired there as a paid EMT," wrote Angela. "The first night we met was the fire night he took a shift other than doing his orientation ride time." That first meeting lit a fire that first responders couldn't put out. Within a week, the pair were on their first date – Applebee's in East Norriton. They've been inseparable ever since. "Brian proposed on July…

Love Stories: Janie Loves Bob

Patch asked our readers for love stories on Valentine's Day and Janie Hensz-Gallagher didn't disappoint with this tale of internet-age love.

Texas native Janie Hensz Gallagher couldn't wait to tell us about the love of her life: "I'm originally from Texas and Bob and I met on AOL in September of 1999," wrote Janie. "We have the same birthday (month, day, and year), which is how we met." The relationship started out slow via computer the first month, but progressed to every-other-day phone calls by October. By the end of the month, Bob had proposed – before they'd even met in person! She, of course, accepted. "We met for the first time in November," wrote Janie. "For Thanksgiving, he flew to Texas to meet me, my family, and to put the ring on my finger." Janie and Bob were married by the end of the year and she moved to Pennsylvania to be with her man. "Thirteen years later, we …

Ursinus Professor Takes Aim At Chik-fil-A

Theater Professor Domenick Scudera blasts the fast-food chain with a dose of acerbic humor.

Ever since Chik-fil-A President Dan Cathy proclaimed that the fast-food chain is supportive of the biblical definition of marriage, social networks across the web have been awash in arguments from both sides of the debate. Now, a local voice has chimed in on the matter, as Domenick Scudera, a theater professor at Ursinus College, has firmly stated his opposition to the chain in a recent update to his blog on the Huffington Post. "I ate at a Chick-fil-A restaurant the other day and my life was transformed," said Scudera, in a post dated July 19. "You see, at Chick-fil-A you get so much more than mouthwatering, delicious fast food. In addition to chicken, biscuits and fries, you also get a whopping helping of evangelism." Near the beginning …

Corporations express opinions all the time over a wide range of subjects. You just don't hear about it, because it usually involves the donation of money or other corporate assets (commuity involvement, free stuff, logistics support, etc.). Most of them will do discreetly, in some cases because they know their involvement might turn off customers and investors. Give kudos to Chick-Fil-A for …   more ›
